A team of researchers recently conducted an experiment with a group of 58 patients with Parkinson's disease. They did a survey to divide the patients into the following four groups:
- Those whose first PD symptom was a tremor on the right side of their body. (15 patients)
- Those whose first PD symptom was bradykinesia and/or stiffness on the right side of their body. (12 patients)
- Those whose first PD symptom was a tremor on the left side of their body. (19 patients)

A minority (about 30 percent) of people living with Parkinson's disease will confront dementia. Confusion, memory lapses, and other mental impairment are common. Physicians call these symptoms mild cognitive impairment. Because they are mild, they are different from dementia, which is severe. However, patients, family members and physicians can often see dementia coming for a while before it reaches its full-blown state.
