Elena Tuero has lived with Parkinson's disease for over twenty years. She credits deep brain stimulation with helping her to regain her speech, walking, and mobility. She continues to maintain an Spanish language Web site about Parkinson's disease, www.maldeparkinson.org.
Tuero lives in New Jersey where she has raised her three daughters as a single mother. After her diagnosis her painting abilities blossomed. Now her paintings have inspired admirers in art galleries, at Parkinson's-related events, and on Web sites.
She has worked on many projects to help people with Parkinson's disease. Her outreach to the Spanish-speaking community with Parkinson's has reached many people neededing to understand the condition in their own language.
Tuero holds an associate of science degree in accounting from Bronx Community College in New York.
