CDNF for Parkinson's Disease
However, there is good news concerning potential treatments for Parkinson's disease. We usually do not pass along science in animals, but this next story deserves some attention. Scientists writing in the journal Nature informed the world of conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor, or CDNF. In recent rodent experiments, CDNF produced positive results by preventing nerve degeneration as well as helping restore nerve function in laboratory mice.
CDNF is akin to the controversial GDNF, and may have similar potential. However, clinical trials will help us know if CDNF can reverse Parkinson's for millions awaiting a cure.
