The mid-November conference included sessions on medications, self-care practices, mental health, and care giving. The goal of the conference was to provide families with coping tools and contribute to patients' optimism and sense of empowerment.
We encourage you to visit the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation's archive of the event. You can download notes from the presentations, and even see movies of some of the presentations. (If you have a dial-up internet connection, the movies may not play very well.)
The presentations discuss cognitive issues in Parkinson's, and developmental therapies. Perhaps the gem of the conference that can help you live a better life with Parkinson's disease is the presentation by Dr. David Heydrick. He is a neurologist who has Parkinson's disease. He has his "prescription" about how to best manage life with Parkinson's disease. Some of his information is based on scientific evidence, others are based on optimism. His information will benefit almost anyone who applies it. However, he does have the bias of being a young-onset patient. We are also interested to do some follow-up research on his statements about the benefits of the spice Rosemary.
